    Copplestone Parish Council update

    Hello from The Parish Council.
We welcome Martin Greig as a new Member to the Council; one vacancy still remains, please contact the Clerk if you are interested. Also, the Council would like to thank a Member of the Public for undertaking a litter pick off her own back – many thanks for working in the Parish.

The Parish Council have recently acquired a 25year lease of Fernworthy Playground from Mid Devon District Council. There is a bit to do at the ground and work is underway to tidy the ground. The Parish Council would like to know of any ideas that residents have for the improvement of this land. Please provide some ideas.

The Parish Council succeeded in getting The Cross Inn registered as an Asset of Community Value with MDDC. This will help protect the pub for 5 years from any development without further consultation with the Parish etc. We know the Pub is open infrequently but do not have any information on the future use.

The Precept request has also been considered for the financial year ahead. Community projects that can be organised by the Parish Council including the War Memorial, Fernworthy Park Improvements and Recreation Field considerations,. It was felt that there should be an increase to the Precept from MDDC to £12,800. This adds £2.27 to the annual Council Tax bill for a Band D property.

    Your current Parish Councillors are:
    Stuart Penny (Chairman) – E: stuart.penny@mail.com
Stephen Faulkner, John Lunn, Helen Olsson,
    Julie Rumble and Martin Greig.

Meetings take place on the 1st Tuesday of the month in the Church Community Room at 7.30pm with a public session at the start of each meeting. In addition, Cllr Helen Olsson can be found at the Café on a last Thursday morning of the month and will be happy to chat with you and bring your concerns to Parish Council. To contact the Parish Council, please make initial enquiries via the Clerk, Christopher Voaden, email copplestoneparishcouncil@gmail.com

    Copplestone Parish Council update

It appears that the rain has departed and the cold weather is here, Good news!

Copplestone Parish Council recently met and they too have Good News. No troubles during Halloween and Fireworks night were noted. Normally issues are reported to the Parish Council but this year…nothing. Good work to all those who were ‘Trick or Treating’ responsibly and the general attitude of the Youth within the parish.  The same goes for Dog Fouling as  reports of this issue have been reducing. Dog fouling is unsightly and is taken seriously by Mid Devon District Council who can prosecute you for this.

The Parish Council has also noted the situation at The Cross Inn. It was seen fit to apply for the Pub to be registered as an Asset of Community Value with Mid Devon District Council. More information can be found on https://www.middevon.gov.uk/your-council/town-parish-councils/assets-of-community-value. We hope to be able to provide an update in the New Year.

Highways have been discussed. We can report issues with the roads but you also can using Devon Highways website https://new.devon.gov.uk/roadsandtransport/report-a-problem/

    Copplestone Parish Council update

    Hello from the Parish Council.

Since our last update in December, the Parish Council have been heavily involved with the planning application on the land East of Dulings Farm. It was good to see so many residents attend our meeting expressing their views on the application. The Chairman of the Parish Council spoke at the Committee meeting at MDDC where the application was being considered to object to the application. The application was not approved by MDDC. We also know that an appeal has been made by the applicant over the decision. A revised application has also been received. This will be discussed in March.

In January, the Parish Council also seeks a Precept payment from MDDC to run the council and provide the services
around the village we are obliged to undertake. Copplestone Parish Council felt that there was no current justification for increasing the precept and would keep the precept at £11,000. We are unsure of the exact increase by MDDC on the precept which will affect your council tax bill.

Cllr Penny has raised the idea of the Parish Council providing a War Memorial within the Village. Grants and assistance can be obtained from the Royal British Legion. It was thought that initially 5-6 names to be placed on the memorial.

The Parish council still has one vacancy. If you would like to volunteer, please make contact with us.

Meetings take place on the 1st Tuesday of the month in the Church Community Room at 7.30pm with a public session at the start of each meeting. To contact the Parish Council, please make initial enquiries via Christopher Voaden, the Clerk, phone 877807 or email copplestoneparishcouncil@gmail.com
